What is Substance?
Substance is a monthly service that provides you with tools and content including access to the latest versions of Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Substance B2M and access to downloadable content through Substance Source.
For Indie licenses, subscribing to Substance also allows you to get perpetual licenses of the software after you meet some criteria:
- You must be subscribed for 12 months consecutively
- You can get a perpetual license of all the software for a payment of $49 if you decide to cancel Substance

What do I get with my Substance subscription?
You get access to a Substance license that allows you to start using all the latest versions of the software as soon as they are released: Substance Painter, Substance Designer, and Substance B2M. You also get access to the Substance Source content library, with the ability to download content each month.

How many payments does it take to get a perpetual license for the software?
This option is available only for Indie licenses.
When you are subscribed for more than 12 months consecutively, when you cancel you get the option to purchase a perpetual license of all the software for $49.
This license does not provide any maintenance to the software. You can purchase maintenance for each software on the website.

Can I cancel when I want?
Yes, you can cancel your subscription whenever you want.
Please note you will lose the possibility to get a perpetual license of the software when you cancel your subscription.

What happens if I have a payment problem?
If for any reason you have a payment problem with your subscription, your licenses will stop working on the day of the payment was supposed to happen.
If you have been paying by debit/credit card, we will start to charge you again 1 day after the due date, 2 days after the due date, and 5 days after the due date.
If you have been paying with PayPal, we will start to charge you again 5 days after the due date, 10 days after the due date, and 15 days after the due date.
If the payment fails after the 3rd attempt, your plan will be cancelled. You will lose the history of consecutive months and you will need to resubscribe if you want to use Substance.

If I cancel Substance do I keep the assets from Substance Source?
Yes, you keep the assets you already downloaded.
You also keep the downloads that were left on your account, and you can still use them even after cancelling your subscription.

What happened to the "accumulated payments" I had previously with Substance Live, before June 20, 2017?
Since June 20, 2017 the accumulated payments are not available anymore in Substance. The accumulated payments were transformed into months when calculating the 12 consecutive months if you want to get a perpetual license.

In June 2017, Substance Live evolved and became Substance.
